We have gardened here for over 25 years starting with a clean slate save for the beautiful
Liquidambar tree and a climbing hydrangea. We have introduced several roses, both climbing and shrub, and
over the last couple of years whilst waiting for an allotment have grown gooseberries, blueberries, thornless
blackberries, strawberries and plums, and rhubarb planted in a large tub.
A couple of months ago Colin acquired his allotment so now there is not the pressure for space to grow our
beans and courgettes. We have planted the ground to the side of the house with herbaceous plants and at the far end,
where it is very dry and dusty, we are growing bearded irises with some success. The front garden makes for
interesting gardening as the soil under the window is shady and damp whilst the soil near the pavement is dry and
dusty! The back garden has raised beds planted mainly with perennials, with toadflax, fennel, Verbena bonariensis
and hollyhocks conveniently self seeding themselves amongst the roses.
